The PEIACL Ice Crushers Inclusive Hockey Program was established in 2021 with the mission of adapting and modifying the game of hockey to meet the unique needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This initiative aims to provide a supportive and enjoyable environment where participants can learn at their own pace while experiencing the numerous benefits of engaging in the sport. The Ice Crushers program not only benefits individual participants but also serves to strengthen community ties. By creating a safe and supportive environment, the program enhances mental well-being, boosts self-esteem, and reduces stress. It also provides an opportunity for families, caregivers, and siblings to connect with one another at the rink, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration among all involved.
