WHAT IS ART FOR ALL?
On November 17, 2018, the Prince Edward Island Association for Community Living hosted a painting event called “ART for ALL” at which our clients were mentored by Katelynn Kelly, an Island artist and educator with the Department of Education. She helped guide our clients through a basic painting tutorial where they learned fundamental painting skills. We had volunteers on hand who helped with distributing supplies, replenishing clean water, and helping our clients with any additional assistance they needed. At the end of the day, our clients created two works of art: one that they were able to take home; and one that they donated to our organization.
The goal of the project was to help participants gain a sense of pride through the creation of their own artwork and bringing it to the public.
We also want the artwork to be displayed in a gallery where the artists, the important people in their lives, the general public, and invited dignitaries will come to an opening event and enjoy the works on display.
Eventually, PEIACL plans to include the artwork in an auction that we will have leading up to our annual St. Patrick’s Day gala—giving the opportunity for participants to make some money off of their artwork while fundraising for the PEIACL.
